This test forms part of our General Assessment suite for recruitment and internal HR and promotion processes.
It is also suitable for individuals who wish to understand their capability in mechanical reasoning, to assist with their personal development or to determine whether they are suited for a particular career.
Are you looking to better understand or practice your mechanical reasoning abilities? Candidates are able to purchase an individual license. You will receive a licence code to allow you access to the system, which will enable you to undertake the assessment.

This is a test of cognitive capacity, with randomly generated questions from our banks to reduce the risk of cheating or sharing answers across candidates. The test takes 45 minutes to complete and automatically finishes after this time regardless of whether the candidate has answered all of the questions. Different aspects of mechanical reasoning, including gears, levers, gravity, pulleys and cogs are tested.
This test generates a report, which the Symbiotics team put together in easy-to-interpret sections and pass back to the customer.
Mechanical reasoning tests are often used for engineering or other technical roles. They rely on the test taker having a knowledge of mechanical concepts rather than looking at an underlying mechanical aptitude. However, it is reasonable to assume that an applicant for a role of this sort will have an academic background that includes Physics and Maths, which will have introduced them to the relevant concepts.
